The Republic of Sierra Leone, in West Africa, became independent from Britain in 1961. Sierra Leone has a common law legal system which means lawyers and citizens rely on access to law reports in order to research and argue their cases, and the courts need access to their previous cases in order to make the right decisions. However, as there is not yet a systematized approach to law reporting, the courts and the legal profession in Sierra Leone have not had consistent access to reported, categorized and indexed decisions of the Sierra Leone Courts since independence.

This project aims to change that by making available in print and online a complete set of important cases from the Sierra Leone Courts from 1961 onwards. By providing the courts and the legal profession with access to a comprehensive database of case law, we will help Sierra Leone’s legal system thrive and promote the ongoing development of transparency & the rule of law (and all the benefits that come with that). All cases reported in the Sierra Leone Law Reports will soon be available in hard-cover printed volumes, with official citations [SLLR]. Stay-tuned.

We are currently operating with very limited resources. We need editorial, case reporting and technical support to accelerate our publishing program, clear the backlog of cases to be reported and publish law reports as they are handed down by the Sierra Leone Courts.
